Yes Sir, Mom!

We are trying to teach Ryan to answer, "Yes, Sir," and, "Yes, Ma'am," and when appropriate, the negative of the two. Call us old-fashioned or call us my dad was in the military, my mom's native language even has a cousin a year younger using a word of respect, and Chris' family hails from Texas. Old-fashioned is shorter. He has, "Yes, Sir," down pat during the tiniest portion of time he isn't saying, "No!" or "Um. I don't sink so. Not wight now," or the replacement to, "I a boy," ... "I tired." When he is answering me, he says, "Yes, Sir Mom." I never even want to correct him because it reminds me of our honeymoon when we were greeted by every genuinely happy resort worker with, "Hi, Sir, Ma'am!" or more accurately, "HiSirMa'am!" So you can keep calling me, "Sir," kid.

Allow to me walk down memory lane. Thanks.

Our honeymoon was the second biggest surprise of my life (you take the cake, Ryan). I don't remember where we got the idea, but we decided early on that I would not know where Chris was taking me. I guess it makes sense that we never find out the sex of the baby whenever I am pregnant! I know how good true surprises are. Anyway, I could not believe it when Chris showed me our destination at the airport:

Chris flew us out to the Philippines, and then our friend, Jaime, and his family so generously hosted us for almost two weeks! We are forever in debt to them and their generosity!

Here are a few of my favorite photos:

Was your honeymoon a surprise? Tell me where you went!

    1. Impressive! I don't know Tagalog, and we don't know many Filipino people so no kuya or ate over here.

  3. We didn't go anywhere... No hear me out. I'm from Canada - my husband is from Hawaii. After the wedding we moved into our first little home together, in Hawaii. Our wedding was in Canada and we paid for his parents (who also are from and live in Hawaii) to be there as well as for all the other wedding costs (my parents paid for the reception :)).
And, right after the wedding we paid for me to fly, with all my things, to Hawaii as well. SOOOO... Yeah. Honeymoon? Not so much.
But we live in Hawaii. :) :)

  5. Beauuuutiful photos!! We went on a really lame not surprise Carnival cruise. I have thus decided I hate cruises. I like to think our REAL honeymoon was a year later when we went to Ireland and England! I loveeee surprises, but I hate knowing there will be a surprise and not knowing what the surprise is, know what I'm saying? So I don't think I could ever wait to find out the sex of one of our babies! I think you have a special kind of patience!

  6. Wow, your pictures are breathtaking! Although there's no way I could wait for the surprise of knowing where our honeymoon would be...or the sex of our babies for that matter :) That blue dress you're wearing in the picture is gorgeous.

  7. Thank you! I always dreamed of wearing a blue going away dress, and I searched for months! I finally found the perfect vintage one on eBay right before the wedding :)

  8. It wasn't a surprise. It was a gift from my dad and his girlfriend. They gave us the choice of Mexico or Hawaii. We had already been to Hawaii twice together. So, we went to Mazatlan, Mexico. It was such a fun trip. I loved our honeymoon.

  11. Yes it was a surprise, which I LOVED! We went on a cruise through the Mediterrenean. I just wrote all about it here (http://forwantofwonder.wordpress.com/2014/03/12/478/). Also, our cruise ship workers were so sweet and would greet us enthusiastically, "Hello, Mrs. Nicole! Hello, Mr. Tom!" We loved it. :)

  13. No surprise honeymoon-I wanted to help choose! We decided to go somewhere neither of us had been before, and opted for a resort in St. Lucia.

  15. Love it! I haven't been to the Philippines since I was 3 so not much of a memory there! Interestingly though, my husband has been all over Asia, but not the Philippines, so we both know we need to go soon!

We did Italy for our honeymoon (which was my dream). I offered my husband the option to plan it on his own, but he said he wanted us to plan it together. Started out in Castel Gandalfo for a couple nights, then Capri for several nights, and the last 4ish days in Rome. Sadly Pope Francis was taking a break from Wednesday Audiences in Rome that month, so no blessing, but we did go to Mass for the Assumption in Castel Gandalfo with the Holy Father, which is an August 15 tradition for popes!

    1. Oh wow, Italy would be such a spectacular place for a honeymoon. Both Chris and I have been there separately, but I would love to go back together sometime.

  17. My husband was also determined that ours would be a surprise. He had it all planned and in the weeks leading up to our wedding, he would give me a card every few days with a "hint" in it. He promised he would tell me if I actually guessed the destination. I never did, so it was still a secret. The night of our rehearsal dinner, someone asked him a question about how he was handling something while we were gone, and he answered them by saying "It's no problem - when we're in the Caymans, I'll just......." as I interrupted and said "We're going to the Cayman Islands?!!!" He was SO mad at himself, and now we just laugh about it - it's one of my favorite wedding weekend stories! And both of us grew up as military brats, AND my husband is in the military, so all our boys say "Yes, Ma'am", "Yes, Sir", etc. It just comes naturally to them now, but it makes me so proud when I hear them speaking to an adult.

  18. I am (literally) 120 blog posts deep on bloglovin' (hadnt read anything in a week!) so I'm just seeing this! Oh my gosh I didn't know the Philippines were so ethereally beautiful.

Sean planned our honeymoon to the Dominican Republic, but he had me in the loop. I was neck deep in wedding plans, and he was excited about a honeymoon vacation anyway, so I gave him the reins and didn't ask questions. Best time of my life! I left that task in very capable hands. It was so fun and gorgeous and just everything!
