What I Wore Sunday, Volume 2

Here I am in my oh-so-scandalous Sunday attire:

Yes, scandalous.

I decided to wear the same outfit to the Saturday Vigil Mass that I wore on Friday afternoon to the Edith Stein Conference. Ryan was dancing around my feet on the brink of a meltdown while I was getting dressed , and I could not get the back of the skirt to hook by reaching behind. I turned the skirt around to make it easier, slid the hook into the eye, then hitched the skirt back around right as the maaa-maaa's reached a perilous pitch on the meltdown scale. A few renditions of Row, Row, Row Your Boat later, Ryan was dressed in an outfit that only included a few tears. We went downstairs, Chris snapped a photo of us, I threw on our coats, and we left for Mass. And we were early! That's saying something.

I chose a pew and soon Chris and Ryan scooted into the seats next to me. There was a somber old man behind us. As the opening hymn began, I took my coat off. After all, I thought I was dressed well for the Eucharist unlike the many times that I try to keep my coat on to cover up my outfit. Ryan lasted until halfway through the First Reading before he made it known that his church outfit was not lending itself to better behavior. Chris took him out to the side lobby. During the homily, I started to hear, "Mama! Mama! Mama!" Ryan. I knew it was bad since his loud voice was seeping through the closed doors  so I got up, genuflected, and went out to see my Mass-interrupter.

Ryan toddled over to me, and signed for a drink. I walked away from Chris in the direction of the water fountain when I heard a surprised, "Katrina!" from him. His eyes were wide, eyebrows raised to the middle of his forehead and there was a very amused look on his face as he reached to the motion at his backside while chuckling. My own eyes widened as I put two and two together and felt to find that I NEVER ZIPPED MY SKIRT UP.  My backside was open for all to see.  And not just a little...  It was church and a show, folks.

M.o.r.t.i.f.i.e.d. does not even begin to describe it. You can bet I didn't make eye contact with anyone as I walked back after communion.

Next week, when I wear a repeat outfit, I'll try to remember to cross my t's, dot my i's and most definitely zip my zippers.

The risque goods:
Skirt: Target clearance rack
Tank top: Target clearance rack
Cardigan: J.Crew Outlet
Shoes: Nine West Outlet

Head on over to Fine Linen and Purple to see the What I Wore Sunday outfits of women who can actually dress themselves...

  1. Oh my goodness. That has happened to all of us at some point I think. Solidarity in numbers. Cute outfit!

  2. Aaah! I once went to an interview and came home to realize that my dress was only partially zipped up the back...you know, like when you zip the part you can manage and then need to ask someone else to get it the rest of the way? Regardless, you look beautiful, Katrina--I'd love to read more about the conference; from what I heard it sounds awesome!

    1. Aaah to your story! My husband once went to an interview with the theft button thing still on it (the store forgot to take it off). He got the job though! I hope you did, too :) I'll try to try a bit about the Conference...I only went to a few talks, but it is just such an amazing event.

  3. Ohhhhh been there, done that! I accidentally ripped a slit in my skirt on the way to an interview, not good news. I love the outfit, though. That color is really pretty.

  4. Hi Katrina, I found your blog through a comment you left (a few weeks ago) on String of Pearls, and have been meaning to comment on your blog and say hello ever since. My husband and I are friends with several of Mrs. Pearl's sons, and your comment on one of her posts jumped out at me because of our similarities! I was class of 2010 at ND (graduated though in Dec 09) and my husband was class of 2007. And you look so familiar! I wonder if we overlapped somewhere....were you in McGlinn? Or maybe we had a class together...

Anyway, nice to "meet" you here in the blog world! Your blog is adorable!

    1. Hi Kate!

Thank you for visiting my blog and saying hello! I love "meeting" other alumni. I was 2011, and my husband was 2008. I actually did live in McGlinn! Did you?

  5. Katrina, I love that skirt. Beautiful! I am excited to meet this little baby so that I can start dressing in "normal" clothes again. Is that bad to say?

    You look great!

  6. This outfit is perfect! I especially love the skirt. And when outfits are that good, who can resist repeating them :) (I did the same thing with my Sunday outfit).

  8. I love the outfit! I'm sorry that it misbehaved for you. I can totally relate with having gone through something similar before.

  9. OH dear! I'm so sorry that happened! Ack! I had an incident once at Mass when my first little daughter lifted up my skirt for all to see my (admittedly cute, but scanty, undergarments). I learned to *never* leave in a skirt without something underneath. So, so horrifying. I totally feel for you!
Anyway, I LOVE your outfit, you skirt is just killer (and I can't believe you got it on clearance at Target! Awesome). Your little guy is super cute (his shoes are fab) and the fire is so cozy!

    1. Ahhhh! How funny! At least your underwear was cute :) Luckily I was wearing tights, but my underwear was pretty bright!

And thanks! His shoes were Target clearance, too :) It is hit or miss, but when it is is hit, it's a homerun!

  10. Oh my goodness...I am so sorry that I am laughing so hard. At least there was no toilet paper trailing. LOL! Oh what a morning. Well no matter, you look lovely and I really like the color of your skirt. Paired with the khaki colored sweater makes a lovely color statement. Looking good!

  12. Oh goodness, Katrina, I'm sorry. But yeah, we've all been there. And it is a great outfit! You know what? I got to Mass with my skirt unzipped too! But I discovered it before I took my coat off . . . this time anyway!

  13. If it's any consolation, I walked down the entire aisle of my very large church to the bathroom only to discover I had a big ole' circle of nursingness on my shirt. I almost died. And THEN I had to go BACK into the church because my children were getting dedicated and I had to STAND AT THE FRONT. I used a blanket and a toddler to cover the shirt. It was awful. And I didn't look half as cute as you do in this picture.

    1. Ahhhhhh I'm definitely cringing after reading your story! Thank goodness for toddler shields :) And circle of nursingness? Best new phrase!

  14. Are you over the trauma enough for me to let out a big "BAHAHA!"? Oh my word, that is terrible, but hopefully, in retrospect, terribly funny. None of us will be able to claim greater attention to detail than you in the future, I'm sure! I had a traumatic wardrobe moment once. When my dad was ordained to the diaconate, the parish decided to hire a videographer. Fair enough, but she was in the balcony, and when we received a copy of the video, we were a little dismayed: I was in a v-neck dress, and though I'm a small-busted lady, the angle she shot at made me look like Jessica Rabbit! AH! Glad to know that it was in the hands of 20+ folks :-P

    1. A big, "BAHAHA!" is definitely allowed. I couldn't stop laughing myself! And aaaaah to your story! Maybe one of her marketing tools is shooting from flattering (or too flattering) angles? ;)

  15. Oh Katrina!! At least it was a fantastic skirt - zipped or unzipped ;) I once worn a pretty lace black top over a long skirt to a friend's wedding.....later to discover (via all the photos) that the shirt was completely see-through - UGH!!! I didn't notice it at all at the wedding and no one else seemed to but I still get a pit in my stomach thinking about anyone I grabbed a picture with that night.
